Warren Davis

Warren Davis

DAVIS, son of Owen Warren and Lovey Davis, was born, December 21, 1842, at Great Falls, now Somersworth, New Hampshire. He fitted for college at the Great Falls High School, and entered our Class in 1859, but left at the close of Freshman year on account of ill health. In college, Davis represented our Class as one of the directors of the Wide Awake Club, a college political (Republican) organization of one hundred and fifty members in the interest of the 1860 presidential campaign that resulted in the election of Lincoln. After a year's rest, Davis entered Bowdoin in the Class of '64. In June, 1862, he enlisted in the Seventh Squadron, Rhode Island Cavalry, Company B, made up of students of Dartmouth College. He saw service in the Shenandoah Valley and was taken prisoner at the surrender of Harpers Ferry just previous to the battle of Antietam, and paroled. His squadron's three months' term of enlistment having expired, Davis returned to Bowdoin and was graduated in 1864.

After graduation, Davis was engaged in the grain and flour business at Great Falls until 1869, when he went to New York in the employ of a Pennsylvania Coal Mining Company and was made manager the following year. In 1872, he moved to Maine and purchased the Katahdin Charcoal Iron Company at Katahdin Iron Works, Maine. He managed this property till 1887 and built the Katahdin Iron Works Railroad, twenty miles in length, and was its first president, living during this time in Bangor, Maine. In 1889, Davis removed to Middlesborough, Kentucky, and engaged in coal mining and coke making. He organized the Mingo Mountain Coal and Coke Company, and became vice-president; also the Fork Ridge Coal Company and served as its president. In 1896, Davis removed to New York, where he has since been engaged in various branches of the coal and iron business, and is now interested in the Secaucus Iron Company, manufacturing pig iron in New Jersey, also in various ore mines in New Jersey and Alabama. He resides in Brooklyn, New York.

In 1870, Davis married Abbie Gould, daughter of Hon. A. P. Gould, of Thomaston, Maine. They have eight children.

1. Albert G. Davis, born 1871. He is a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and now manager of the Patent Department of the General Electric Company, Schenectady, New York. In 1898, he married Miss Agnes Shaw, of Washington, D. C., and has one child, a daughter.

2. Owen Davis, born 1873. A special student at Harvard University, Class of 1894; now a playwright and manager of the Grand Opera House, Philadelphia. In 1901, he married Miss Iza Breyer and has a son.

3. Bessie Davis, born in 1878, and married, in 1903, to Arthur Buck, assistant to Albert G. Davis, of the General Electric Company.

4. Harry Palmer Davis, born in 1878. In the iron business and manager of an iron ore mine in Alabama.

5. William H. Davis, born in 1880. A graduate of Columbia Law School, Washington, D. C., and is now an examiner in the United States Patent Office, Washington, D. C.

6. Robert Davis, born in 1881. He is second lieutenant, United States Coast Artillery, and stationed at Fort Banks, Boston Harbor.

7. Mary Davis, born in 1883. She is a graduate of Brooklyn Heights Seminary, Brooklyn, New York.

8. Perley Davis, born 1884. She is a student at Brooklyn Heights Seminary, Brooklyn, New York.

We note from this report that our short time classmate has been all the years since he left us a busy man, engaged for the most part in one of our country's largest and most important industries. Davis writes in a personal letter, "You will see that if nothing else I have to my credit the bringing up of a large family of boys and girls who are doing their share in the world's work, and are such as the future of the Republic rests upon." A record and a family to be proud of!

              MEMORIES OF 9/11

As all of you are aware by now, the "Memories Of 9/11 Contest" was a great success. By that I mean you all were wonderful in helping us dig back into that painful day and pause to reflect on what happened and how we felt. It still hurts, doesn't it? I know, from a personal standpoint, it still hurts me greatly. I am still, three years later, trying to come to grips with the scope of the tragedy and the sudden loss of over three thousand fellow citizens. These were innocent men and women who had done nothing to deserve the brutal deaths they received. And they all left behind thousands of family members whose sorrow is unending.

US open tennis 2010

The 2010 US Open is a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts, held from August 30 to September 12, 2010 in the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows, Queens, New York City, United States.

Juan Martín del Potro and Kim Clijsters are the defending champions. Del Potro, due to a wrist injury has opted not to defend his title. Two time U.S. Open champion (2003, 2007) Justine Henin, and current World No. 1 and 3 times U.S. Open champion (1999, 2002, 2008) Serena Williams have also withdrawn due to an elbow injury and foot injury, respectively.

Rafael Nadal, the No. 1 in the world and current holder of Roland Garros and Wimbledon, is trying once again to win the US Open, the only Grand Slam that has eluded him so far. His recent form has been far from impressive, but we all know that Nadal has been targeting the US Open and he is likely to hit top form for the tournament. He faces Teymuraz Gabashvili in the first round and should have no problem advancing. His first test will come in the third round, where he is likely to face Philipp Kohlschreiber, the 29th seed and always a difficult opponent. Still, Rafael Nadal leads their head-to-head 7-0 and has already beaten Kohlschreiber earlier this year at the Australian Open and at the Rogers Cup, so he should be able to advance to the fourth round comfortably. In the fourth round, Ivan Ljubicic and Feliciano Lopez are his possible seeded opponents. Nadal leads the head-to-head against both and shouldn't have many problems advancing to the quarter-finals. In the quarter-finals, he is likely to face (finally) tough opposition:

Miranda Lambert is an American country music artist who gained fame as a finalist on the 2003 season of Nashville Star, where she finished in third place and later signed to Epic Records. Lambert made her debut with the release of "Me and Charlie Talking", the first single from her 2005 debut album Kerosene. This album, which was certified Platinum in the United States, also produced the singles "Bring Me Down", "Kerosene", and "New Strings". All four singles were Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.
After the closure of Epic's Nashville division, Lambert was transferred to Columbia Records Nashville for her second album, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which was released in early 2007. Although the title track failed to make top 40, the next three singles ("Famous in a Small Town", "Gunpowder & Lead", and "More Like Her") were all Top 20 hits, with "Gunpowder & Lead" becoming her first Top 10 country hit in July 2008. Lambert's third album, Revolution, was released in September 2009. Four singles have been released from the album, including Lambert's first Number One hit in "The House That Built Me," which spent four weeks at the top of the chart.

Brandon Spikes'

If it seems like celebrity sex tapes are a trend now-a-days, it’s probably because they seemingly are. The latest sex video released on the internet, and published by WorldStarHipHop is allegedly one featuring Brandon Spikes, the former Florida Gator, and current NFL star with the New England Patriots. The video features Spikes and an unknown women performing sexual acts on him in bed and was displayed on Chatroulette, the random video website, live.

There has been no confirmation if the man in the Video is actually Brandon Spikes, however reports coming from worldstarhiphop, as well as other sources claim it is. The National Football League is said to be investigating the matter, under the Personal Conduct Policy.


Brandon Spikes, the Patriots linebacker and former Florida Gators star, is said to be naked in a video of a recorded Chatroulette interaction. An emailer offered the video to Deadspin for $1,500, but the web site balked. The footage surfaced on WorldStarHipHop hours later.

In the video, a naked man is seen with a scantily clad woman in what is said to be a hotel room. The two proceed to engage in oral sex. According to Deadspin's emailer, the man does more than showcase himself to his Chatroulette partner -- he also communicates via the written word. "let's play don't be shy" and "you make me wanna like your p---y," he allegedly writes.

While it is unclear whether the man is Brandon Spikes, the two look quite similar. Scroll down for a tattoo comparison.

Spikes was drafted in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He was a standout defensive star for the Florida Gators during his time with the college football powerhouse, although his tenure was marred by an eye-gouging incident in 2009. (The altercation's victim was arrested over the weekend.) Spikes was a finalist for the prestigious Butkus Award last year, and he could start for the Patriots during the upcoming NFL season.
